I was born in Ecuador and raised in Tkaronto (also known as Toronto). As a first-generation immigrant settler from a working-class background, I understand the systemic challenges and barriers to accessing and navigating postsecondary education which instilled my passion and drive to transform how colleges and universities serve historically marginalized students.

As an emerging critical scholar, I have strong knowledge of student development theories and critical and poststructural frameworks. My work is grounded in anti-colonial and feminist theories and frameworks, Indigenous paradigms, and Latin/e epistemologies which I use to disrupt inequities in higher education and develop culturally relevant and student-conscious strategies for student success. I hold a  doctorate in Higher Education from the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education (OISE), University of Toronto on Treaty 13 and Dish with One Spoon Territory.

On a personal note, I love the Pacific Coast and ceviche, and enjoy being active (running and cycling). I am intentional about my time and energy and make a conscious effort to balance work and joy by spending time with family and friends.
